CUPE Local 1091 has sponsored scholarships for graduating Grade 12 students for a number of years. There are two types of scholarships: one for students graduating from a Delta Secondary School, and the other, the Out of District scholarship, is for students graduating from a Secondary School outside of Delta. Here is the information you need if you have a child or grandchild who is graduating this year.
Students Graduating from a Delta School District Secondary School
If you're a CUPE member and have children or grandchildren graduating this year from one of Delta's secondary schools, they are eligible to apply for the secondary school’s CUPE $500 award. Applications are available in early April from the secondary school’s Career Centre. These scholarships are handled completely by each school’s scholarship committee. Local 1091 simply supplies the funds to the school. Be sure to get the application from your school’s Career Advisor and submit the application to the school.
Students Graduating from a Secondary School outside of Delta School District:
This scholarship is known as the Out of District Scholarship. There are three $500 scholarships available each year. The recipients of these scholarships are determined by the Trustees of Local 1091 based on the criteria set out in the motion that established these Scholarships in 2014. The application for this scholarship is available through the CUPE Local 1091 Office. Since the criteria for these scholarships include a transcript of final marks and a letter of acceptance from a post-secondary school, these scholarships will be awarded in the fall based on applications received during the summer following the student’s Grade 12 graduation. The completed applications, together with the required supporting documents, should be sent to the CUPE Local 1091 office by September 15th of each year.
